[TriLUG] gpsd, gpsdrive, friendsd2 ???`

Ok here is obscurity at it's best...

We have a system that we are working on that involves connecting a headless 
(non-X) gpsd client to a gps tracking server (with gui), in our current setup 
we are using "gpsdrive" on our server. 

However, we cannot seem to pass the data to the server without running the gui 
gpsdrive client... 

Any help with this or even recommedations on software packages that can do 
what we need would be helpfull
