That's probably a huge percentage of the real reasoning behind the shift in
availability to solid from stranded.  Manufacturers / retailers are likely
operating on the presumption that most bulk cable is destined to be used in
facility wiring situations, and when folks want patch cables, they'll
happily shell out the extra few bucks for things like stranded cable,
machine-crimped connectors and molded strain-reliefs.
