Hi Greg,

I'm a fan of high-res screens and tiny fonts so I like the 1600x1200
LCDs as currently shipped with the T42p and R50p models.

I have friends who swear by the little X-series units. I've heard that,
with after-market ("planar") batteries, you can get 6--8+ hours of
actual use (coding!) from the X-series units and still have something
under 6 pounds.

And according to:

  http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/ibm.html

most of the new ThinkPads work well with recent Linux distros.

ps - I love my A22p but the PIII-900 is showing its age,
particularly under repeated builds and tests of our
  atmosphere/oceans simulation code.
