As far as I know, that's true.  The 58 has a windscreen and is designed 
for vocals.  The 57, which I have is designed to be an instrument mic, 
and thus a windscreen isn't required.  I've used it for recording my 
trumpet.  Both are excellent quality and extremely popular.  That's not 
to say there aren't better things out there though.  There are.
