   How about:
apt-get install aterm

in my .xinitrc file (or from command line):

aterm  -tr -trsb -fg white -g 80x24+40+16 &
aterm  -tr -trsb -fg white -g 80x24+370+380 &

works for me in:
XFree86 Version 4.3.0.1 (Debian 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 20050601051219 
fabbione at fabbione.net)
