At somewhere around 1:05am on Sundays, his systems run 'apt-get
update' to get a list of updated packages.

At the same time every morning, they do 'apt-get autoclean', which
gets rid of package versions that are no longer available on the
mirror host.

I'm not 100% sure that's what you're asking for, but trying to explain
cfengine is more than I can manage at 9:30pm.
