The Hauppauge PVR-150 is a very nice card.  I just recently set up a
MythTV box for my girlfriend using one.  I think this is the one we ordered:

I believe I had to compile the Beta ivtv drivers to make it work, and it
has been running like a champ for a month or two.

It is a hardware based mpeg2 encoder.  It does a much better job than
half dozen different bttv based cards I have used over the years.  When
I was setting up the card I was cable to capture test video clips by doing:

cat /dev/video > test.mpg

ivtv came with scripts to set channels and bitrate, and I assume it
works with most video4linux software.  Once it was working I didn't use
it for anything but MythTV.  This weekend I am planning on copying an
old VHS tape for my father, I can let you know what I use for that when
it is done.
