Have you seen the squeezebox?  http://www.slimdevices.com/index.html

It's a slick network music player that can access media from its OSS 
companion SlimServer (runs on Linux, Mac, BSD, Solaris and of course ... 
the evil empire)

Squeezebox starts at about $250.   granted... not the cheapest solution.
