Neither do I, but the wonderful US Justice System does.  Though possibly 
urban legend, I've heard of burglars successfully suing homeowners after 
the burglar was injured in the midst of his burglary attempt.

Even if that particular sort of story is myth, the specifics of your 
retribution are indeed established as illegal, as has already been said.
