[TriLUG] Reading camcorder via USB

Okay, so I still haven't bought a firewire card. I'm sure that will happen
soon.

But in the meantime, I have a Panasonic PV-GS 150 camcorder. It includes a
USB interface, so I hooked it up to my Debian box to see what would happen.
Here's what I see in /var/log/messages/.

Initializing USB Mass Storage driver...
scsi1 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
usbcore: registered new driver usb-storage
USB Mass Storage support registered.
Vendor: Matshita Model: DVC Rev: 1.00
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 00
sd 1:0:0:0: Attached scsi removable disk sda

Um...okay. Now what? Any ideas?

I've never tried to pull video off of this camcorder before. I've been
content to hook it up directly to a TV and play back from tape, but now I
have several tapes that I'd like to convert to DVDs or something. I just
wanted to see whether I could get away without having to spring for a
firewire card at the moment.

Thanks,
---Tom
