I just installed gentoo 2006 on a 

jason at spike ~ $ uname -a
Linux spike 2.4.32-sparc-r4 #1 SMP Fri Jun 2 08:37:01 EDT 2006 sparc64 
sun4u TI UltraSparc IIe (Hummingbird) GNU/Linux
jason at spike ~ $                     

and it runs great.
