I was a regular academic researcher for 30yrs. For all the
billions of dollars spent on the space program, I rarely saw
a paper published. In the '50's and '60's I'd keep an eye
out for the results of experiments from new satellites but
never saw anything. In my area, biochemistry, for that
amount of money (each shuttle launch is about 0.5G$), you'd
be filling half of any journal.

The ISS is just there to give the shuttle something to do.
Presumably they'll find out again what the Russian's learned
about living in space from Mir.
