I setup my first linux box on a machine with a 32M (M, not 
G) harddisk back in 1994. I used a live CD (most of your 
file system is on the CD and /home/user and /etc are on the 
harddisk - or something like that). In those days you 
couldn't boot off a CD, so you had lilo on a floppy with the 
kernel on the floppy. Presumably on your machine you can't 
boot off a CD either and you'll have to boot off a floppy 
(upto 2.4.x) or off the harddisk (for 2.6.x), but there are 
plenty of "live CD" distros. 120M isn't all that small. 
Otherwise can you replace the harddisk?
