[TriLUG] Question about wiring a new home with Cat6/e

I'm also considering the future resale value of the house. Having it
wired for voice and data (the right way) -- would definitely add some
"added value". Not to mention it would lure in some techies!

I'm also going to pre-wire a home-theater setup, and a home intercom
system (where I can play radio / music in every room). A little trivial
at first ...but I want a 'smart-home'!

...now if I can work on getting my home appliances cron'd to cook me
breakfast ...we'd be good to go!

Say, you thought that someday you might setup a MythTV setup together.
Say you wanted to stream that video to multiple rooms.  Wireless just
won't do.

He's on the right track by wiring his house as its being built.  Granted
wireless works for most things you'd want to do but it'll be much easier
(and cheaper) for him to wire the house before the sheet rock goes up,
than to find out he wished he'd done it at some point later.

To that point I'd personally go with the best cable I could run
(depending on cost), I can't imagine what a home network would ever need
more that gig ether net for.  Then again we weren't supposed to need
more than 512k of RAM either. . .
