I downloaded and was picking around the 2.6.20 kernel today, largely
because I'd like support for k8temp, the hardware temperature monitor for
AMD Athlon64 chips. There's a new section in the configuration titled:

Serial ATA (prod) and Parallel ATA (experimental) drivers

This is distinct from the old ATA/ATAPI/MFM/RLL support, which still
exists as well.

I can't find much online about this addition. Anybody know the background
for the addition? Most importantly, should one use this, the older "ide"
drivers, or both for PATA? Why?

Thanks-
Andy
