I have a tried and true method of getting out of the service plan  
upsell. The moment it is brought up I either a) put down the item or  
b) walk away from it (as in the case of a washer/dryer, etc.) and  
start ranting along the lines of:

This is gonna break? I don't wanna by nothing that breaks. I thought  
you sold reputable goods. Is this refurbished? Is that why it's gonna  
break?

etc. Do this is a really loud voice and they'll drop the pitch quickly.
