[TriLUG] Firewire Cards on Linux

I'm thinking of putting a Firewire card into my Linux box (Ubuntu 6.10
x86) and was wondering if anyone knew which brands were best supported
and which brands I should avoid.

Also, while I'm getting this mainly so I can pull video off of my
camcorder, and thus will be mainly using Firewire 400, would it be worth
it to get a card that also supports Firewire 800? I've never used FW800
devices on Linux, so I don't know how supported it is.
