disks are cheap compared to the aggravation and angst you 
will have suffered to restore this disk. Get a large disk, 
put it in an external USB drive and rsync or `cp -ruv` to 
your external disk anytime you'd changed more than you want 
to loose. Make sure it's bootable. If you fry your main 
disk, pull the copy out of the USB drive and stick it in 
your machine and you're going again in 10mins.
