Just to chime in:  I have a 16 drive, 8TB of raw disk, SATA RAID-6
iSCSI-attached storage appliance hosting all the home and project
directories for my department in production now for a few months.
Performance is fantastic and I've had no problems with it yet (knock on
wood).  iSCSI *rocks*
