[TriLUG] VoIP, open source, LUG meeting on the 'net
nivex at nivex.net
Wed Aug 8 23:20:06 EDT 2007
In the beginning there was Asterisk. Asterisk was powerful, but
mysterious. Then came the LUG meeting broadcasts, and they were good,
but rather one sided.
Now, remote participants will have the chance to be heard! That's
right, the meeting broadcast is now a meeting conference!
How to get connected:
- From the Internet, grab your favorite IAX client (your own Asterisk
box perhaps? If not, give http://kiax.sourceforge.net/ a try.) Place a
call to IAX2/guest at voip.cerient.net/40
- From a normal phone, call Cerient Technologies (getting the number is
an exercise for the reader). At the voice prompt, dial the super sekret
extension of 40.
You will start off in the conference muted, being able to listen only.
This will probably be sufficient, but should you decide that you need to
do something, press *. A voice menu will greet you, but why listen to
all that? Here's the quick overview:
1 - Toggle YOUR mute
4 - Conference volume down
6 - Conference volume up
7 - YOUR volume down
9 - YOUR volume up
8 - Exit menu mode
Do mind the consequences of YOUR actions. Once unmuted, you will become
the mysterious voice from above at the meatspace meeting!
Once done providing your valued input, please put yourself back on mute.
Errant typing and paper rustling is fine at the back of the room, but
not on the loudspeaker.
There you have it. A meeting room that spans the Internet! Let me know
if you have any questions.
