OSI approval doesn't carry nearly the weight that it used to, IMO.
Unfortunately they have been responsible for excessive license
proliferation, more recently with the badgeware debacle that you mentioned.

Unfortunately they own the trademark to the term "Open Source".

It would be interesting to see a more openly run group coin a related
trademark with a narrower definition and operate more transparently.
