In the past I have borrowed the fire exit placard from the wall which
has a floorplan on it, and photocopy it quickly so you can return it
to its rightful place.

Give every room or cubicle an assigned number (starting with floor
number and maybe 2 or 3 digits for a sequence number within that set)

Give every port in every room/cube an assigned number (just starting
from "1")

So the second port in the 8th cubicle on the 4th floor would be 408-2
by my scheme.

If you have a facilities department you might want to see if they have
already assigned room numbers and such so that you can work within
their existing conventions.

Doing it this way, you can quickly look at a floorplan and tell
exactly where a port in your wiring closet terminates at its other end.
