[TriLUG] adding Linux/samba fileserver to an existing windoze network

Connecting to a Linux Samba server from a Windows client is a non-issue.
There's usually nothing to configure on the client side. Just map a drive.

The one thing I have found myself having to do lately is to configure
Windows clients to send unencrypted passwords to my Samba server. I
suspect that's to do with our domain configuration, though, since I've
never had to do it before. I can't compare it to configuring Windows
clients to to connect to a Windows file server (shudder), but as simple
as Windows-to-Linux is I can't imagine it's any more difficult than
Windows-to-Windows.

You know, it depends on what 'best' means. Most secure? No. Use
WinSCP to connect over SSH2. Simplest? No. Use a USB drive. It works
pretty damn well, though.
