You may recall that I presented the Open Document Format at at least one
faculty meeting. ODF is widely supported and will become as of Office 2007
Service Pack 2 the native XML format for MS-Office according to several sources
including PC World.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,146162-c,unresolvedtechstandards/article.html

What this means is that begining with SP2 (due in Early 09), your Office files
(Word, Excel, etc) will be in an open and fully transportable (no filters
required) XML format. This is good news not only for those who use things other
than Office, but also to those who want to parse documents, preserve documents,
etc.

Most sources say that OOXML aka .docx will be put on the back burner as even
Office 7 is not fully compliant to the published standard.

Back to your regular programing,
Paul
