My company is looking for an intern to take on some part time tasks in
our application support team.
Compensation is minimal, so this is an ideal opportunity for someone who
is more interested in learning than in getting paid, however, there may
be future growth opportunities for the right person.

These are the required skills:

HTML
CSS
Basic programming or scripting experience with Python, Java, PHP or Bash
The ability and desire to learn quickly

The intern should be able to create simple static web pages from scratch
and edit existing pages with little guidance. Use of CSS to control
fonts, colors, etc consistently is expected. Minor scripting or coding
tasks will be available occasionally.

These are the additional desirable skills:

Familiarity with Linux
Familiarity with MySQL or some other SQL database product.
Familiarity with Moodle

The intern will have opportunities to configure and modify open source
software for use in production systems. The primary application will be
Moodle. The intern will configure Moodle systems using the built-in
admin interface. Additional customization to the layout may require
manual editing of themes including HTML and CSS changes.

The intern may have opportunities to write SQL statements used to help
create custom reports.

All work will be performed from a Linux desktop against open source
applications running on Linux servers.

The intern will work on a part time basis in a team with several
experienced system administrators and developers covering a variety of
disciplines, all relying heavily on open source operating systems,
tools, and applications. The development environment is structured and
the infrastructure is mature. This is a great place for exposure to the
use of open source in a professional capacity.
