[TriLUG] Problem on Fedora 8

I'm not sure there's a specific written reason but the best I can think of
is that with different character sets and character set requirements, in
addition to what various terminals are capable of rendering, having a list
of "valid" characters can lead to issues. MessyDos had this issue with
certain glyphs (forget which offhand).

In general, with Linux/Unix - convention is by norm not by requirement.
