On a related note, but of no use to the OP, I discovered ssh-copy-id
today.  I don't know if this is an Ubuntu-only tool, but it copies your
public key to the authorized_keys file of a remote host.  Much handier
than scp and cat especially when you're working with more than a dozen
hosts.  I'm reading Crypto by Steven Levy and wanted to make sure I was
using 4096 bit RSA rather than an NSA crapware DSA key.

Interesting book, by the way.
