Download and install "dnsmasq".
It's a caching DNS server with integrated DHCP server.
It's dirt simple to install and configure.
And it certainly meets your "set and forget" requirement.

PS - It really is set-and-forget. That's why it's included in
the Tomato and DD-WRT firmwares for WRT54g routers.
