I ride a BMW GS ( 2002 R1150GS), which I love. I've taken a few big
trips, and it has
done well.

I rode from Burlington Vermont to Raleigh ( Mostly down I95, which was a
mistake due to
the toll roads). I did it in a day, leaving at 6am and getting in about
9pm or so.

Last year, I did an 'iron butt -- 1000m/24h' ride. From Clayton to
Cedar Rapids. Better
than 1100 miles, it took 22 hours. We took quite a few breaks, but also
hit some twisties.

The bike did better than I did, but after 4 or 5 hours, you can't really
fell your butt
anyway. For long hauls, I highly recommend an ample supply of gold bond
medicated
foot powder ( umm, not for your feet).

Here is a recap of the week ( 4400 miles):

I sometimes ride with Tarheel Travelers ( http://www.tarheelbmw.org/ ,
check out
their event calendar online ). They are mostly BMWs, but all brands of
bikes are
welcome and represented.
