Ah yes, it involved a role playing game called something like Spy. A 
player would get a call to pick up a package and deliver it some where, 
or to another person. They would also be called upon to track movements 
of individuals and text the information to a particular number. If I 
remember both the main characters in the story "Halting State" were gamers.
