Using pure CSS layout generally works well. I believe there are some CSS hacks that will manipulate cell padding and cell spacing but it's tricky compared to manipulating divs.

Thank you Allen.   Yes, I was trying to do it in the "modern" style,
where CSS controls everything, but that doesn't seem to work.
