This is something that I can do "with my eyes shut" even though I've not been doing it professionally in a long time. There is nothing on my resume that shows it, though, because when I've done it the job title was "programmer" or "tech writer" and I simply filled in for all the sys admin and net admin work as needed. The guys who were "supposed" to do it always had trouble getting cables right. My manager at one of those positions introduced me to visitors as, "This is Peter Neilson. He can always put together anything he takes apart."

Right now I'm finding little tech writing work (it's gone overseas or something), so I'd be quite happy to go and push racks around in the middle of the night or whatever. I would expect to write up some SOPs in my spare time, if any, to make the work easier for the rest of the team. I'd also probably code up some stuff in Perl or bash or PowerShell as needed.
