[TriLUG] OT: music hardware geeks - Roy, Jim and the like - reel to reel stuff

I don't know about the TEAC, but I helped a friend a few years ago
with this same issue on a 2" 8-track recorder. It would run for a
while, then slow down. We found that the motor shaft did indeed need
to be greased. It would heat up and expand, which caused some binding.

It wouldn't surprise me if you could find a local recording studio
that could do the transfer for you, or could help with a repair
contact. The first place that comes to mind is Mitch Ester's
Fidelitorium in Forsyth County. Having recorded there, I know Mitch
has a TON of vintage gear; as well as digital equipment. Maybe try
contacting him with your question and he might be able to help. He's
very approachable. http://www.fidelitorium.com/

The guys at Overdub Lane in Durham might have leads too ...
