with Linux servers and workstations (preferably Red Hat Linux) and
various associated storage systems and peripherals; technical
knowledge and experience with VMware products and virtualized server,
storage, and compute systems; experience in system performance tuning,
and capacity planning; exceptional technical and troubleshooting
skills with computer hardware, operating systems, and productivity
software; the ability to work well both independently and with teams;

multi-tasked environment; have excellent communication and

Qualified candidates must be able to obtain a U.S. Department of
Energy security clearance for this position. In order to obtain a
security clearance, U.S. citizenship is required.

Technical knowledge and experience with administration of Cisco
network systems; experience managing Domain Name Servers, Web
Services, Web Proxies, and Firewalls; programming and scripting skills
(C, C++, PHP, Perl, shell, etc.); working knowledge of cyber-security
technologies and tools; experience managing backup systems and
software are also highly desirable.
  Job Description
  The successful candidate will serve in a system
architect/administrator role, working with other IT/CS stakeholders on
strategizing, planning, developing, and implementing physical and
virtual Linux server solutions at the Sandia/California site. They
will plan, execute, and manage projects, maintaining and upgrading
existing systems and implementing new ones. They will perform work and
provide oversight of junior staff in carrying out these tasks. They
may also be engaged in research projects in related technical areas to
further the Sandia mission.

  Department Description
  The Communication and Network Systems Department provides
communication services for the California site including computer
networks, telephone services, and remote access capabilities.  There
are three computer networks utilizing the latest technology providing
high speed communications to locations on site over an extensive fiber
optic infrastructure.  Telephone services include all site telephone
systems as well as coordinating cellular service and pagers.
The department is responsible for all phases of operations including
design, implementation, and customer service.  Emphasis is placed on
innovation, teamwork, providing reliable services, and minimizing
costs.  The Department and Center provide a wide range of
opportunities for growth and career development in the expanding
communications field.
