I admire your dedication to roughly-local business.  Would that local
business made it easy.  Have you considered

 - putting in a specific request to these stores.  "I'd like to buy
   from you, but I need a specific piece of hardware ... "

 - going online?  For example, I've yet to be dissatisfied with Newgg.
