2.54 would be outside the ISM band, but 2.45 is OK.  :-)

Being microwave ovens are ~1 kW RF sources, to shield them enough to not interfere with reception of ~100 mW wi-fi radios isn't easy.   A small failure of the shielding may not pose any risk of harm but can easily swamp nearby radios.

Attached is a spectrum analyzer pic from a point-to-point project in 1998, through a 24 dBi antenna aimed across Tampa Bay from a building rooftop.  I'm pretty sure the energy at 2458 MHz was a microwave oven, e.g. at a restaurant.  On a real-time display they're easy to spot because they wander in frequency.
