Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is searching for an HPC Storage 
Administrator in The National Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS). 
The NCCS is part of The Computing and Computational Science (CCSD) 
Directorate at ORNL. Please review the position description below in

Purpose

The National Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS) in the Computing 
and Computational Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory 
is seeking a highly qualified individual to play a key role in the 
administration and support of a massive parallel distributed file 
system, along with the accompanying storage subsystems and underlying 
Infiniband and Fiber-channel based infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will perform complex analysis tasks, testing, and 
troubleshooting of current systems, as well as contribute to the design, 
installation, and management of future file system and SAN-based storage 
resources.

Major Duties/Responsibilities

Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
-Installing, configuring, and maintaining computer system hardware and 
software
-Monitoring of systems and storage performance, up to and including 
network components
-Diagnosing system operational problems quickly and effectively
-Coordinating with vendors to resolve hardware and software problems
-Porting and writing system management tools
-Building and Deploying open source software and software from 
vendors/partners
-Providing reliable and efficient backups/restores for all managed systems
-Setting up and maintaining host and network based security for all 
managed systems
-Documenting system administration procedures for routine and complex tasks
-Participating in a 24-hour, 7-day on-call support rotation and 
off-hours maintenance windows
-The position is also responsible for system implementation/integration 
into the NCCS environment and systems
performance analysis.
Qualifications Required
The successful candidate will have a B.S. in Computer Science or closely 
related field (or an equivalent combination of training and experience) 
and a strong working knowledge of UNIX and Storage system fundamentals.
-Minimum of 3 years experience managing Unix/Linux operating systems in 
a large scale system environment
-Experience configuring, administering, and supporting storage 
subsystems (EMC, NetApp, DataDirect, IBM, LSI, etc.)
Knowledge of basic SAN administration concepts (zoning, multipathing, 
fabric topologies, etc.)
-Ability to develop and maintain programs and scripts that aid in the 
operation and automation of administrative tasks using various shell and 
scripting languages (bash, Perl, Python)
-Solid understanding of networked computing environment concepts
Preferred Qualifications
-Experience with one or more distributed file systems (Lustre, GPFS, 
GFS, IBRIX, etc.)
-Experience installing and maintaining diskless clustered environments, 
and provisioning systems using automated installation methods (like 
kickstart)
-Direct experience working with Infiniband (must at least be able to 
demonstrate a working knowledge of Infiniband concepts)
-Strong interpersonal and communication skills
-Ability to work as a team player
-Ability to plan, organize, prioritize tasks, and complete assigned 
projects with minimal supervision

Special Requirement

It is required of this position the ability to obtain and maintain a 
clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a 
Workplace Substance Abuse program (WSAP) testing designed position which 
requires passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an 
ongoing random drug testing program in which employees are subject to 
being randomly selected for testing. The occupant of this position will 
also be subject to an ongoing requirement to report to ORNL any 
drug-related arrest or conviction or receipt of a positive drug test result.
