Actually, I thought that discussion was rather good, and not a flamewar. 
  It wasn't entirely genuinely researched by all parties, but this stuff 
has to be hashed out, and sooner or later (like it or not) we geeks *do* 
intersect with the rest of society, politics, and political decisions. 
The internet is a great example of a current topic that /must/ be 
discussed, and frankly needs our (collective geek) input.

In fact, I wouldn't mind a discussion-based meeting (or more) on the 
topic, rather than a straight up lecture like we've been having.  I 
believe that the internet, as a proxy and medium for free and 
unregulated speech, is incredibly important, and the outcome of bills 
like this will have lasting and repercussions for the future of a free 
society.  The more I know, whether or not I'm in any particular camp, is 
a good thing.
