[TriLUG] TWC - Packet Loss problems in Cary/Apex, NC

Generally for this type of problem, I recommend running a trace route and
then seeing what you get for packet loss from your router, then modem, then
the closest TWC hop you can get to respond, and then to further hops until
you've segmented the problem. TWC tier 1 support can be clueless and often
works off a script. If you've got good evidence of them having a problem
sometimes they can figure it out or figure out they need tier 2 support or a
dispatch. If you are seeing packet loss to a specific device, let them know
which one - they'll jump in at test from the other side of it somewhere.
They do get a lot of calls that end up being user errors (defective user
CAT5, routers, network adapters, coax, etc), so they do take packet loss
reports with a grain of salt. But, they can have issues with modems, taps,
and drops that look like they might be user problems that a dispatch would
be needed to diagnose an fix.
