Hi All,
A LinkedIn posting came out this evening that could have an impact to the
IT community here in RTP. Below is a direct copy/past of the original
author (Todd Thigpen) via LinkedIn. Perhaps consider contacting Senator
Hagan and opposing this would be something to consider? Or even contacting
the N&O report who is writing this article?

   - Group: Triangle Networking Group
   - Subject: Announcement from Triangle Networking Group

All,

John Murawski, Staff Writer at The News & Observer, contacted me today to
see if I could put him in touch with Triangle technology workers for a
story they are putting together out of their DC bureau. In his email, he
stated the following.

"Sen. Kay Hagan has introduced a bill that would make IT workers ineligible
for overtime pay. Those covered by the bill are classified as IT,
programmer, software, hardware, development, network, engineer, analyst,
database, security (pretty much anything except repair and manufacture). If
they get a salary, or hourly pay at least $27.63/hour, they wouldn't be
able to collect overtime pay.

If the bill passes, it would have significant effect in RTP."

He is hoping to talk to a few tech workers who put in a lot of overtime and
the bill would make a difference in their take-home pay.

He is interested to know the following from tech workers.
1. What is your job title and nature of your work?
2. How many hours a week do you typically work?
3. What's the most hours you've ever worked?
4. How often do you work overtime or over 40 hours?
5. Do you typically get overtime pay?
6. If Sen. Hagan's bill passes and your OT is cut off, how would that
affect you? (Would it cut your pay by 10%? 25% 50%?).

He's looking for local workers who would be affected by a change in the law
and not looking for policy analysis or punditry.

If interested, please call him at 919-829-8932 or email him at
jmurawski at newsobserver.com.
