[TriLUG] Anyone having luck backing up to Blu-Ray?

Is anyone having any luck backing up to Blu-Ray? By luck I mean doing
it with no error message, and no inability to close the disk. I'm
getting it to work with error messages, especially one that says it
can't close the disc, and the .tgz files I'm backing up md5sum OK, but
I'm concerned that these Blu-Rays would be unreadable on other Blu-Ray
drives, especially reader-only drives.
I'm trying very hard to 86 KDE from my system, and Nautilus is a pig, so
extra points for solutions not involving K3B or Nautilus. I'd even be
willing to pay for Nero if it really works right.
Here's what I've been doing so far:
truncate -s 25000MB a1.udf
mount -oloop,rw a1.udf /mnt/test
tar czf /mnt/test/mybackup.tgz /tree/needing/backup/
md5sum mybackup.tgz > mybackup.md5
growisofs -dvd-compat -speed=2 -Z /dev/dvd=a1.udf
Like I said, when I eject, reinsert and mount, I see the tgz, and it
md5sum's to the same as the mybackup.md5, but I'm worried it won't work
on other burners because it never closed.
Any ideas would be wonderful.
