[TriLUG] openvpn questions

I _think_ I've just got openvpn to work.

( I have the client and the server both connected to the
local wiring and the packets could be going directly, so I
could be fooling myself.

Checks that it's working via openvpn rather than directly:

When I traceroute from the client (192.168.2.x) to a box in
the server's network (192.168.1.x) the packets go via the IP
on the outside of the server (50.55.133.203) rather than via
the internal gateway (192.168.2.254). When I scp between
then client and the box on the server network, the expected
number of bytes passes throught the tunX devices on the
client and server. )

Assuming it's working, I don't understand the tun IPs.

Here's my server

tun0 Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00
           inet addr:10.8.0.1 P-t-P:10.8.0.2 Mask:255.255.255.255

Here's my client

tun0 Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00
           inet addr:10.8.0.6 P-t-P:10.8.0.5 Mask:255.255.255.255

I can ping both 10.8.0.1 and 10.8.0.6 from both client and
server, but not 10.8.0.2 or 10.8.0.5. What are these
unpingable addresses about?

Thanks Joe
