You may want to have a MBR Grub2 install that simply chainloads grub2
on a boot partition (sda2 for example) unique to the other distro.
You'll have an explosion of partitions, but with a good labeling
scheme you should be able to keep track pretty well.  The partitions
can be as small as you like so they don't eat space, and this way, no
distro can clobber another.

Now that Virtual Machines can be run on a stock kernel with 4 yr old
hardware, why dual boot anymore?  Just fire up a VM?
