Yes, I used to see this all the time on my old laptop with intel graphics.

My new x220 laptop sometimes had tearing or multi-colored static
regions that go away after minimizing the window and forcing a redraw.
 (ubuntu 12.04).  I have not had time to dig into this or even file a
bug report.
