I have used mutt as a primary MUA and continue to use it in certain contexts. It's plenty modern and handles MIME fine (as Jack Hill noted already). Being a TUI instead of a GUI doesn't mean you can't handle MIME.

alpine (previously pine) has also been modernized, so neither of those is an example of an MUA that would cause problems... unless you had it misconfigured.
