Infrastructure/Systems Engineer

Summary of Position:
The Infrastructure/Systems Engineer is responsible for engineering,
architecture, operation, monitoring and support of hardware
infrastructure components in office and data center locations.

Location: Raleigh, NC

-Currently supporting a production environment is not a bad thing.
The important part, though, is that they have the *hardware* skills
(networking, servers and storage).  As long as they have those, it
shouldn't necessarily count against them if also have responsibilities
to production.

-So, it's fine if they currently do "operating system configuration",
"application support", "web server configuration", "apache tuning" but
they absolutely need "SAN/NAS/Storage", "routers/switches/firewalls
networking", "server hardware administration", and other
infrastructure (as opposed to application) skills.  In this role, they
won't be doing the OS, application, web stuff, but great if they
understand it.

Responsibilities:
•        Ensure all infrastructure components are operating reliably
and at peak levels of performance in a high-availability, 24x7
environment.
•        Design and engineer future solutions that continue to meet
and exceed the performance expectations of the business.
•        Proactively monitor all systems and respond quickly to alerts
(24x7x365) impacting performance or availability ensuring SLAs are
met.
•        Collaborate closely with business units across the
organization to ensure infrastructure services are delivered in line
with business requirements and expectations.
•        Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation on all new
and existing systems.
•        Maintain documentation for all systems following defined best
practices.  Create engineering documents, test plans, support plans
and systems maps for all internal IT systems.

Required Skills:
•        3+ years configuring, managing and troubleshooting networking
equipment (switches, firewalls, routers), storage appliances
(NAS/SAN), and server hardware.
•        3+ years experience designing and building mission critical,
redundant environments that span multiple data centers.
•        3+ years supporting business-critical infrastructure in a
24x7 environment.
•        Experience with virtualization technologies (vmWare or
similar) – VCP certification is a plus.
•        Experience building and supporting cloud
(public/private/hybrid) environments.
•        Strong knowledge of Linux, FreeBSD, MySQL, Apache.
•        Significant experience with open source products and tools.
•        Familiar with ITIL and Agile processes – certifications a plus.
•        Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a
fast-paced environment with frequently changing priorities.
•        Customer-focused attitude and commitment to quality.
