** RSVP REQUIRED to info at dc919.org **

DC919 extends an open invitation to the community to join us for an
introductory workshop on Metasploit basics. Metasploit is a penetration
testing framework that allows users to leverage community-built exploits
and tools to perform security assessments against services. The
Metasploitable virtual machine is an intentionally vulnerable virtual
machine aimed at demonstrating many of Metasploit's features. DC919
members Sussurro and Ronin will demonstrate how to approach the
Metasploitable distribution, navigate the BackTrack 5 Linux distribution,
MAP network hosts using nmap, and finally assess and exploit services
using Metasploit.

This is a free hands-on workshop; we'll be crowd-sourcing pizza, so please
bring cash to contribute to the pizza fund! Let us know in advance if you
have any food restrictions.

Attendees are encouraged to bring your own machines, and to download the
following tools:

* BackTrack 5 R3 with Gnome from http://www.backtrack-linux.org/

* Metasploitable from
https://community.rapid7.com/community/metasploit/blog/2012/06/13/introducing-metasploitable-2

* VMware Player from http://www.vmware.com/

These tools will allow attendees to perform all the activities required
for this workshop on their local machine. Please download these beforehand
and make sure your computer has sufficient resources to run them!

Basic tasks we will be performing:
* Basic Linux navigation and tools in BackTrack 5
* Using nmap to MAP networks and services
* Using Metasploit to fingerprint services
* Exploiting services using Metasploit
* Elevating privileges using Metasploit
* Password and database management using Metasploit

The workshop will be held at 7pm on Monday, October 15th, 2012 at
SplatSpace in Durham: http://www.splatspace.org/location/
Since space is limited, RSVP is required. Please email info at dc919.org to
RSVP or with any questions. We look forward to seeing you there!
