I converted to Linux a little over a year ago, finally kicking Windows in
the teeth in what was a long divestment from Microsoft technologies,
ultimately culminating in the OS itself. It's not my 1st time with Linux,
but I hadn't dealt with it seriously in 16 years.

If I had some face-to-face people to talk to about Linux, I might have
enjoyed my learning curve a bit more, gotten through it faster, and have
accomplished more by now. As it was, I wasn't in the Raleigh area, except
for a brief time last October before I came home with car trouble. I had
intended to be around longer but it didn't happen. I keep saying I'll get
back to the Raleigh area and I might land on you guys any month now, which
is why I'm active on this mailing list.

I was disappointed, however, when my inquiries last year about Linux indie
game development around here led nowhere. Got some vague references that
yeah, some people are doing that, but nothing concrete. I find all this
Linux "server babble" wholly uninspiring.

It's not the 1st time I've had that experience in a UG either. Once upon a
time I went to a Python user's group in Seattle. My reaction was, why
don't these guys talk about game development? Why do they only talk about
web servers?

Oh well, I'm an indie, so I just do what indies do. Tough it out on my
own, as needed.

Cheers,
Brandon
