[TriLUG] U-Verse for us

I switched from TWC and DirecTV to UVerse a few years ago. I did it
primarily for better upstream bandwidth -- I also run a Linux server
at home.
My upstream bandwidth increased dramatically over TWC. From <1Mbps
to > 8Mbps, IIRC. I recall having to talk to UVerse tech support
to open outgoing ports for my mail server.
I did not intend to keep the TV service, but I found the DVR to be
superior to DirecTV DVR, which was superior to the top-of-the-line
TWC DVR I had before that. So I kept the TV service, dumped DirecTV
and have been a (mostly) happy customer.
The big caveat, however, is the massive UVerse outage that happened
last spring. Our service was out for many days (a week?). We got
a financial credit for that from AT&T without asking, but that was
still a pretty horrendous failure. I had TWC/RR internet for about 11
years before that without a outage more than a few hours.
