[TriLUG] OT: home Automation

I've been thinking about this of quite some time.  I think I've settled on z-wave with one of my raspberry pies at the middle.  I originally was going to go with the z-wave daughterboard but now I am thinking of using usb, mostly because one of my pies already had a powered usb hub (and that one can't accept a daughterboard because it has a cobbler and an IR sensor.

Anyway, if you or anyone else goes the z-wave route let me know.  I'd like to see what you do, what your lessons learned are, etc.
